I am a Do-it-your-Selfer around my house. But arthritis and carpal tunnel syndrome hinder my gardening. This did the trick and more. Dug the holes for my bulbs and plants in no time. Attached to my cordless drill and stayed put. Made of heavy gauge metal. Great quality. Dont hesitate to buy it. You will wish you had done it years before.
This worked extremely well for me planting bulbs. I am so glad I decided to go for this tool. I have rocks in my soil, and this made planting bulbs a snap. I highly recommend, especially if you have rocky soil.
I wish I had known about this product sooner, it has been an absolute life changer! Planting bulbs used to take me hours due to constant digging, but now I can easily plant over 100 bulbs in 2hours. Super easy to attach to a drill & is able to break up tough soil or mud. Capable of drilling an 8'' hole, could probably drill higher though. Highly recommend to any gardener!
My wife usually plants the bulbs, but I began beekeeping recently and decided I want the girls to have a lot of beautiful flowers to visit when they emerge in the Spring. After planting 50 I discovered how exhausting it can be and I still had 100 left. I immediately searched for something to ease the process and settled on this. It works great! No complaints whatsoever. I planted the remaining 100 bulbs in a fraction of the time it took me to do the first 50. Worth every penny...
Neighbors went to Holland in the spring and had bulbs shipped to them for fall planting. We dug hole after hole for them (they're older and can't dig) with shovels --- what a pain. They gave us some personal bulbs as a thank you and we ordered this auger to make the job a bit easier. Arrived and what a relief! Even with somewhat lousy soil, the auger did a great job of digging bulb sized holes that made the job much easier the second time around.
This tool was used to plant 1000 bulbs and it stood the test even in rocky and root filled soil. It will work like a dream in a prepared bed but will require more effort in those rocky or root filled places and will most likely require the strength of a man to handle. The tool works better with an electric drill as it has more power. This will probably be the first time I have ever planted bulbs the correct depth, thanks to this tool. Highly recommend!
Planted over 500 bulbs this past fall. Even with our heavy clay it worked great. You just had to take off smaller bites when drilling or it would turn the whole drill on you. I used a hammer drill which helped a lot. I can't imagine how long it would have taken to plant these with a shovel. It really helped to have a partner plant as the other person drilled the holes. Excellent purchase. Not afraid to plant bulbs anymore!
This tool is a life changer. Planted 60 cloves of garlic in 20 minutes. As stated in the other reviews the soil must be soft. I highly recommend this tool. I planted over 100 flowering bulbs in 30 minutes. Can't wait to try it next spring with planting my tilled vegetable garden.
OMG!! Very impressed with this auger...I sometimes feel like walking around the yard and digging holes now, haha! But seriously, I HIGHLY recommend this tool for gardening and planting.
I am a professional landscaper and use this bulb auger to not only plant bulbs, but I also use it to plant just regular annuals. It saves my back and knees like you wouldn't believe! It works great in heavy clay soil or in well tilled soil. I have been so satisfied that I own three and recommend it highly to everyone who sees me using it and asks me about it. You will need a half inch chuck in your drill to use this auger. I literally plant thousands of bulbs every year with this auger, and tens of thousands of annuals. It saves me tons of time!
I was not sure about this but thought I would give it a try and I was not disappointed. I put this on my regular drill and went out to an area of my property that was pretty heavy duty compacted dirt, rocks, and this bit dug a whole perfect for a bulb or other plant. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS. I like the longer one so I don't have to bend over as much (back injury) and this works.
This auger which I use to drill down into the plants root system and then fertilize is really great! It's strong enough to pull up fist size rocks when there encountered. This is the first one I've owned so I've no comparison to other like items. There have been a number of friends who I have suggested to purchase one for the same purpose. I also mulches the planting beds very well, I use a portable hand drill. GOOD product......
I live in the red clay belt of North Carolina and the ground is very hard to dig in when it is dry. This tool with a powerful enough drill will dig into this clay. I have also used it to plant my vegetables in my garden and am looking to planting bulbs in the fall. My only caution is that you have to be careful not to hurt your wrists and hands if you use a heavy duty half inch drill. The auger can cause the drill to twist violently in your hands if you are not holding on tightly.
